Calling all Buckeyes!~

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 14.

It is all about the pink right?  The Seaside collection has just a touch of Hollyhock pink throughout the pack and this 3" x 4" PML card showcases it well.  I wanted to bring out the it's inner pink so I used Hollyhock cardstock for the card base and it made made those Hollyhock strips PoP!  To partner with that, I added a pennant cut from a second PML card, Hollyhock ink for the sentiment and two little Flamingo Dots for the sentiment--all pink!  Pulling out the pink gave a completely different look to the PML cards!  My daughter Abby, who is a pink-all-the-way-kind-of-girl, was so excited she wanted to give it to her teacher on Tuesday...despite the fact that it is not even her birthday!  I had to promise we would make a similar card with a non-birthday sentiment for her.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 13.

As scrapbookers, are you like myself, and save every little scrap with the mindset that there will sure to be a use for it in the future?  I am finding myself even more so like this with the scraps from my Picture My Life Cards!  I adore them so much--I want to savor, if you will, and use every little piece.  This card design proved a great way to do just that -- I used the little strips of the blue polka dot card in combination with the Seaside paper to create a simple, but cute, card.  The sentiment piece was cut with Artiste Cricut Cartridge and stamped in Glacier Ink with the You Mean the World To Me Stamp Set.  For embellishments, I used the Gold Shimmer Trim and the Gold Sequin Assortment.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 12.

This card was scrap lifted from the Cut Above Thank You Kit and created as a monochromatic color palette with textures.  The base is dry embossed with the Chevron Embossing Folder to create the texture.  The bottom pennant was cut from a 3' x 4" PML card, the next layered pennant was cut from Sorbet cardstock and is not embossed, and the final, or top pennant, is cut from Colonial White Cardstock and stamped with the sentiment in Sorbet Ink.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 11.

This was a fun layout to create as it allowed me to let my inner pink-ness shine! I combined the shades of Hollyhock, Smoothie, and Sorbet in strips and pennants to create the accents to the layout and used several of the PML cards to add additional accents both in the journaling space and in the title.  I love the way the Desert Sand Cardstock blends so well with the pinks and the straw hats and how well the layout design showed off my cute daughter and her "sand-snowman"!  Note the Flamingo Dots circling the journaling 

(PML card)?  Just a little flair to compliment set off the journaling, and then the dots are used in two other places to create the triangle effect and be more pleasing to the eyes.  The layout designs is Pattern 16 from Make it From Your Heart Volume 1.

The title PML card is a 3" x 4" size however, the corners are rounded as all of our PML cards are.  Because of the design of this layout, the rounded corners looked out of place surrounded by the photogrpahs.  To resolve this issue, I trimmed 1/4" off the top and bottom of the card (essentially the rounded edges) and then added a small polka dot strip from a different card to make up the loss.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 10.

Tonight's layout is one of my favorites thus far on my 25 day journey because it allows me to feature some of the unique photographs in a manner that makes them truly shine--specifically the large photo in the lower portion of the left page and the long photo on the right side of the right page.  As explained in Day 9's post, I sectioned off the large photo for the right page using Studio J to ensure the placement of where the photo was to be cut and that this cut would not be in "dangerous" positions of the photos. I chose to have the photo stretch across the entire bottom of the page so that it would show the scale and pure size of the rocks that my family had been climbing.  Likewise, with the long photo on the right page, I took the picture vertical so the length of the peninsula could be seen. I realize my family looks like little dots in the photo but I supported the layout with many close up photos as well so I felt like this photo was a must-include.  Our journey resulted in many photos from this climb, and I wanted to include them all but there wasn't such space, so, flip flaps were added to allow for additional photos.  The 4" x 6" flip flaps worked fantastic on the PML pages as they are the same size as the pocket.  The large assortment were a little off as I found (see the left side) as there is a margin left for the additional seams in the pockets.  I will certainly remember that next time but for this time, I will let it go as is.  I am delighted with the end result of the layout.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 9.

Hello Summer!  Such a fun title for a fun layout!  This is a great example of a "traditional" Picture My Life Layout --simple, not too many bells and whistles, and put together "simpler, faster, and easier" for sure!  In fact, the "Hello Summer" and the sign card have nothing additional added to them, they were just slid into the pockets; the two cards with the shells are the Fundamentals paper with the glossy side up and the Wooden Seaside Shapes (now retired) were just glued to these for a little decoration and then they too were added into the pockets. 

The photographs I printed with Studio J-- and that process couldn't have been easier.  For the 4" x 6" and 3" x 4" photographs, I used the Express Collections/Photo Collections and choose the two appropriate sizes but for the two photos that are sectioned apart, I used the No Limits option which I found to be most valuable.  Here's why: first, I was able to create a mock layout of what my layout would look like in Studio J.

From here I could arrange my photographs to see how they would best look before printing the photos. Second, because I wanted to split two of the photos (one into two 4" x 6" and one into four 3" x 4") I was able to use the cells for placement and measurements to see where the photo would be cut so that I would not be cutting through a critical part of the photograph--some one's head etc. I simply moved a blank cell over my photo to see where exactly the cut would be.   Because I could see the dangerous areas, I was able to shift the large photo in the cell to avoid these areas.  Without Studio J, I would of had to guess, and most likely, I would have guessed wrong and had to re-print several times before getting it right. Just another fabulous reason why I love, love, love Studio J!!!

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 8.

Tonight I want to share a simple layout that was one of my Create and Takes from my Fall Open House earlier in the month.  The layout's simplicity leaves much room for those little details that I adore as well as (gasp for some :)) white space.  Because of the "painted" look to the polka dot paper, I selected the "painted" background and texture paper for the base instead of a cardstock.  This is actually the back side of the polka dot pattern so either bulk Seaside paper is needed, or 2 packs of the paper as a total of 4 sheets are needed.  And because I am incorporating a PML card, and the PML cards have rounded corners, I also chose to round the corners of my photos for a more balanced appearance; this created a softer feel to the layout.  For the embellishments I "collection-swapped" and used the foam sticker shapes from the Chalk It Up collection--the two collections share the Sorbet color and the Lagoon from Chalk It Up accented the shades of blue in the Seaside Collection very nicely.  Other than that, we cut a few pennants and the layout was complete.  I encouraged my scrapbookers to journal in either a pennant or in place of one of the photos depending on how much they had to journal.  As this layout is in a series of layouts from one single event for me, I choose to let the PML card be my journaling, and then sub journal "my family" in my pennant for just a little more personal touch.  Though rare from myself, this is certainly a do-able 2 hour or less layout from start to finish.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 6.

So, as I have been sharing all week, Close To My Heart is celebrating our Picture My Life Scrapbooking Programs all month long and with that, I thought I would share the many ways these kits can be used in your scrapbooking and paper crafting.  That being said, I have chosen to share 25 ways to use a single PML kit, Seaside!  SO, today after a major migraine setback, I have sharing my 6th idea.  This is one of my favorites!  I modeled the layout after a layout featured in the Annual Inspirations Idea Book!  The layout has the feel of the PML pages without the PML page protectors!  So, this is PERFECT for all of my customers who are falling head over heels in love with the PML cards but don't want to use the protectors (and you know who you are). Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 5.

Continuing with my 25 Day Picture My Life Challenge, this is a little 3" x 3" card that I created.  It is the perfect size for a "lunch box note" that I love to send in my kid's lunches to school or tied with a ribbon on a plate of brownies for a "happy" gift for a neighbor or friend.  The card was created using a 3" x 4" PML card cropped down to 3" x 3" and little strips of additional PML cards (leftovers) to embellish.  The Gold bling added just enough of that extra touch.  The stamp is one of our new little stamps and such a cute phrase!

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 4.

Today's 25 day Picture My Life Challenge is a card that was created with the same stamping that was used on Day 1's layout proving that you can create, once and twice at the same time.  Meaning?  When I was creating Day 1's layout, I stamped several extra seashells -- after all, I already had the inks and stamp out.  Once I finished with the layout, I took the extra shells, cut them out, and created a card that I could use them on.  I love doing this--when I create a layout I always have little scraps left over and what better way to use them then on a card.  I like to do it at the same sitting as I already have all of the coordinating elements right there together.  Back to this card, the mat and the base are from the Seaside paper pack.  The Glacier photo mat is up on 3-d foam.  The only thing that I added to the PML shell card (3" x 4") was the sentiment stamped in Desert Sand Ink.  I also opted to "pop" the shells up on 3-d foam to add some dimension.  I added three Gold Bling Gems to the lower right corner to finish off the card.

For today's 25 Day Picture My Life Challenge, I wanted to share this birthday card that I created.  The PML card is a 3" x 4"  card trimmed down to fit inside a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" card.  The print on the PML card is also printed larger on a 12" x 12" paper however the print loses the design when cut down for cards; but the smaller PML card is perfect!  This is actually my favorite of all of the Seaside PML cards!  I absolutely love it!  The card base is the "painted" Glacier paper which when folded and scored has a polka dot design that would then be in the inside of the card.  The sentiment stamped on a scrap of another PML card as the little striped piece.  Such fun!  The hearts are actually in the Chalk It Up assortment but they are Sorbet in color so of course they coordinate!  Another great feature of CTMH's products--since we revisit the same colors, often you can interchange embellishments from one collection to another.  The gold bling added the perfect finishing touch.

Note that the PML card on the left was used in Day 1's layout for the journaling element.  I used part of the left over from that layout to accent the sentiment on the card.

Picture My Life - 25 Day Challenge. Day 2.

The second piece of artwork for my Picture My Life 25 day challenge is this thank you spinner card. You might be asking... "Picture My Life cards....where?" and that would be my thought as well at first glance.  But if you look closely the Sorbet pattern design is actually a Picture My Life Card.  The pattern is the same as that in the paper pack, however the PML version is a much smaller design and thus much happier for a card.  This particular spinner card design is my favorite because it requires little paper but gives a great wow factor!  The strips are 3/4" x 2 1/2" so a great way to use up your scraps--whether they be PML or paper scraps. The finished card size is 5" x 7".  As in the layout I shared yesterday, I also used the Whimsy Paper Fundamentals (Glacier) paper - I like the softness of the paper and the glossed pattern burst.

You will note that I used the crab card in my layout yesterday however it was cut down to make a photo mat.  This design that I used for the Spinner card was a great way to use the scrap that I cut away from the mat!  Think outside of the box!  I have a little Ziploc bag that I keep in my PML box for each of the Collection's scraps and I go back and use them!  They are so cute--why not??
