31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Tip 13.

Tip 13--the awesome Express Collections!  I love them! They are full of detail and pre-created so all I have to do is add my photos, a sub-title and journaling!  Awesome for moms like me who are always on the go and with so many collections and themes to choose from your pages will look like you spent hours creating the details of the layouts when in reality they were created in minutes!

My little Gabriel and Nicholas both ran in our local Earth Day celebration by running in a 5k.  This was their first 5-k and I am so proud of each of them for crossing the finish line.  Gabriel ran the entire race and kept a pace with many adults!  I am such a proud mama!  I created this layout tonight in Studio J to capture his special moments.  The layout is one of the Express Collections which means all of the detail work was pre-done making my layout simpler. faster. and easier.  Love, Love, Love it!

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Tip 12.

So I have to admit.  I got a little sidetracked with life the past few weeks, but I wanted to finish my 31 Days of Studio J tips as I still am passionate about how awesome this program is!

So tonight I wanted to share charms that I made for my scrapbookers that attended my Shamrock Crop a few weeks ago.  It has been requested by one of my scrapbookers that they have some type of tag or momentum to hang on their tool bag as a momentum of the weekend crops.  For this crop, I created a 1" image in Studio J (the image was obtained from Fotofolio) and added the name and year of my crop.  I printed the 1" pictures using the Studio J program.  Once they arrived, I cut the pictures to the 1" size and adhered the pictures into the Base and Bling Square Pennant- Faux Antique Silver with Tombow.  I then added Liquid Glass over the entire image and added the Base and Bling Square Glass Covers.  I pressed down and used a baby wipe to wipe off the excess Liquid Glass from the seams.  I allowed the charms to dry overnight and then attached them to a Thirty-One Key Fob.  I loved how the charms turned out.  

As a bonus, as I had already created the image, I also printed the graphic as a 2" size and gave it to each scrapper in a 2" Flip Flip so that they could add it to a layout of the weekend.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Creating Christmas Cards (or other photo cards). Tip 11.

This year, as a part of our Christmas presents to our family members, I created each family their photo Christmas cards in Studio J; had them printed the cards and included the envelopes.  I loved the endless possibilities that Studio J provided!  If you note, all of the families had a different paper collection --so no repetition -- and I was able to choose papers that coordinated with the photographs that they chose. 31 Days of Studio J My Way - Personalizing Photos. Tip 10.

Last week our local Daisy Troops held a Teddy Bear Tea for the current Daisies and for incoming Daisies.  My girls LOVE this Tea!  I thought what fun it would be to set up a photo booth for them and take pictures of the girls with their Teddy Bears.  I used my CTMH table cloth and a pink sheer for the back drop and a large scalloped frame that I decorated with daisies (of course) as my prop.  The girls took turns sitting on their knees or cris-cross-apple-sauce on the sheer and held the frame in front of themselves and their Teddy Bears.  Once I got home, I loaded all of the pictures into Studio J, cropped the photos, added the black border and the text.  This is a screen shot of my daughter Abby's picture.  I wish I could show you all of the pictures because they indeed came out adorable but out of privacy of the girls and the families you will just have to trust me.  The finished size was 5" x 7".  I think this would be a great idea for any special event, or even a fundraiser, for an organization!

The next Studio J project I want to share is a layout of my little girl at one of her Daisy Meetings.  The girls painted a cauldron and signs for a Halloween party.  I loved using the paper Laughing Lola with the pictures because even though the paper was not Halloween, the dark purples lended to the Halloween colors.  LOVED the end results!

31 Days of Studio J My Way - Tip 8. Name tags/badges.

Have an event coming up?  Need name tags?  Why not create them in Studio J?  They have that professional edge yet an artistic flair!  Such a bonus!  And by using Studio J, the embellishments and elements make the name tags look 3-d.  These were quick to create.  I used the Skylark paper collection and the No Limits template and then created several 3" x 4" tags that I liked.  I added each name and recreated for each individual.  Simple. 31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Tip 7. Professional Looking Marketing.

I apologize for my what-seems-like-forever-hastes, but life happens.  I want to continue to share my 31 Days of Studio J and have decided to tweak it to 31 tips verses days as I am so far behind as I still have so much to share!

One new thing I experimented with this month that I loved, is using Studio J to create my marketing.  I was impressed with how professional the marketing looked!  With Studio J's high quality printing and images, the marketing just popped!  I chose to not use patterned paper but instead solids and accent with Studio embellishments.  Here are a few of the signs that I created.  Note that I used pink backgrounds so that I could better visualize the what the finished sign would look like.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 6. Layers and Digital Depth.

One of the questions that I hear often, and once had myself before using Studio J, was about the "depth" of the layouts.  Would they look flat to speak?  I love the layered look of traditional layouts --the embellishments etc.  Happily, I can share that Studio J has achieved the concept of depth in their layouts!  When sharing my layouts with others, I often find people touching the layouts expecting to feel the layers.  A-maz-ing!  This layout is one that I created from our trip to Hawaii as well.  I love Monticello and the Jeffersonian era and there was a restaurant modeled around this time.  My favorite was the mural of Monticello.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 5. From Beachy to elegant.

One of the awesome things about Studio J is having the ability to change patterns colors from their original designs color to a completely different color and in turn a different look entirely.  Here I took the bright Lagoon wave patterned paper in the Footloose paper collection and changed the color to Desert Sand and also Bamboo.  By doing so, the waves, took on the appearance of a geometric design and took the tone of the the layout to a more elegant feel.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 4. Turning photos into quick photo cards!

I must apologize for my absence, I had to step away from my blog due to some family happenings that took my attention, so now I will be playing catch up over the next few days.  I decided I didn't want to "jump ahead" because I would miss out on sharing with you so many awesome things about Studio J so I try to post a few posts each day until I am all caught up!

Tonight, I wanted to share an idea that I came up with to do with my Daisy Scouts.  I found the idea on Pinterest and thought it would be great to expand on!  My girls sell cookies, like every Girl Scout (we have a few boxes left if you need some, or want to sponsor a box to send to the troops) and we are sending boxes to an Army Unit in Ft. Sill.  The girls typically send cards etc. but they are in First Grade and usually tire after 3-4 cards each; and since we have missed so many meetings due to the snow, I needed a quick way to make cards to send with the cookies.  I took pictures of the girls with the boxes of cookies spelling out the word "Thank You", printed them, and had the girls who were able to be at our meeting sign the back with sharpies.  We also took a fun picture of all of the girls that I wrote a message of "thanks" on that we included.  Because of the privacy of my girls, I am not going to share that photo, but trust me when I say it was super-duper cute!  With the $5 sale price, that made our photo cards about $0.40 each!  A great deal!

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 3. Celebrating International Polar Bear Day.

Last Thursday was International Polar Bear Day, which to many might sound like just another made-up day to add to the calendar, but in our house, International Polar Day ranks up with holidays like Valentine's Day and Halloween!  Unusual you say?  If you knew, or know of my son, Gabriel you would understand.  He has this unparalleled love and passion for Polar Bears and has maintained this passion since he was about 9 months old.  As parents, we try to foster our children's interests and as a family, we have all fallen for the Polar Bears.  Family trips are planned around possible visits to zoos that have Polar Bears and we are frequent followers of p.b. web-cams all over the world.  So a few years ago, we also started celebrating International Polar Bear Day that falls on Feb. 27th.  

Because Gabriel has a summer birthday, he uses this day to celebrate his "un-birthday" at school with his friends.  This year, I made little Polar Bear Ice Cream treats with chocolates for the ears, eyes and noses.  They were super easy to make and his friends loved them!

And for a special treat, we found little Polar Bear seed cards that Gabriel took to his friends.  We printed his favorite Polar Bear picture hugging the world in Studio J (great representation for the meaning of International Polar Bear Day -- and saving the Polar Bears and their Arctic ice) and included the pictures in with the little seed bears.  When his friends plant the bears in the spring -- provided that spring ever arrives -- they will bloom into flowers!  

After school, we had a celebration at home with ice cream cake (Gabriel choose ice cream cake because as he proclaimed the bears "needed cold food") and all of Gabriel's Polar Bears.  I took pictures to capture the memories of course and scrapbooked the pictures for Abby and Gabriel in Studio J. Gabriel helped with the designing of his layout.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 2. Scrapbooking in the moment.

One of the most enticing selling points of Studio J to myself, a mother of three children with very busy lives, is that you can scrapbook in the moment making my scrapbooking Faster. Simpler. and indeed much, much easier.  Such an example would be of my life yesterday.  My son's Pinewood Derby car took first place in his local Derby thus advanced to the District Derby.  We attended in the afternoon and I came home and created the layout last night is just a few minutes.  To make the process even easier, I used one of the Express Collections where the layouts are pre-created for me.  I simply added my photos, cropped them, added my sub-title and journaling, tweaked a few colors and my layout was finished!  This makes life so much easier for a busy and on the go mom!  I have a beautifully created layout that looks professional and eye catching!  Fantastic!  By using Studio J for some of these in the moment layouts, I am able to spend more time when creating my traditional layouts without the guilt that I have to work faster because I am so far behind. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

31 Days of Studio J My Way! Day 1. Ewok Class treats.

As I posted yesterday, beginning today, Close To My Heart's fabulous Studio J two-page 12" x 12" layouts can be purchased all month long for just $5 a spread!  That is a $1.95 savings per layout! I am VERY passionate about Studio J and am singing the special from the roof-tops!  The possibilities are endless and all month long I will be sharing some of my favorite artwork, tips, tutorials, techniques, as well as truly out-of-the-box ways to utilize Studio J!  I hope you will join me for the joy and try this outstandingly amazing product for yourself!

For today, I wanted to share my son Nicholas' Valentine Treats that we made for his classmates.  You may remember that I posted the Star Wars Lego Valentine Cards that we made earlier this month as well as a step-by-step tutorial on how to create them.  Click here to re-visit this post. The treats coordinated with his Valentine's and I have to say, were truly unique.

I took the non-edited photograph that I used for his Valentine's and printed it using the 3" x 4" Photo Collection in Studio J.  From there I cropped the photos and added them to the pillow boxes and burlap bags that I had created with additional Close To My Heart materials.  My son was delighted with the end results which of course made me very happy!

For the rest of the creation, we filled the containers with Teddy Grahams (to represent the ewoks). Nicholas, the "Star Wars expert" insisted that we had to use all three flavors of Teddy Grahams (I didn't even know there were three flavors!)...Chocolate, Honey and Cinnamon because "the Ewoks all had different colored fur" which I found to be insightful.  SO, we did. 

Once the treats were in the container, I wrapped the Burlap Ribbon around the container and adhered it with  Base and Bling Adhesive Strips.  These strips are very strong and work well to adhere the fibers of the burlap.  For the "flags" strips I used the Timberline Zip Strip, Bamboo Cardstock with Chocolate ink and the Typeface Stamp Set, and then Bamboo Cardstock with the Gold Polka Dot Washi Tape.  The photo is matted on Chocolate and Bamboo cardstock and the edges of the mats and flags are ink distressed in Chocolate ink.  I then accented the photograph with the Durables Artisan Studs which gave that perfect antiqued look.

For a few of his "special" classmates and his teacher, we created the same treats but in the Burlap bags.  For these, we did put the cookies in a clear zipped bag before closing the burlap bag so the cookies would stay fresh.
