30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 28

Day 28 – I am thankful for the Boys and Girl Scouts, or in our home: Tiger Scouts, Wolf Scouts and Daisies.  I am thankful for the organizations themselves, what they stand for and all the opportunities they provide for our children.  I am thankful for the adults who give so freely of themselves to make the magic happen.  I am equally thankful that being a part of scouts is important to my children as scouts played an important role in my husband’s life.  Especially with my boys, I love seeing that my husband becomes just as excited as my boys when scout night is upon us.  I hope that they will follow in his footsteps and earn their Eagle Award and Abigail her Gold award.

Oh, the snow outside is sparkling...

Okay, well maybe not...we keep having snow false alarms, but the snowflakes in my layout certainly are sparkling...and shimmering too! How you might ask? With Close To My Heart's new Spray pen! Complete with lid! Just add our pearlizing paint and a little water, shake and spritz! And you have instant shimmer! For this layout, I shimmered the snowflakes and letters (that were My Stickease) and the journaling piece.

Here are the step-by-step instructions on making your journaling shimmer!

1. Print journaling on cardstock. (Ensure that your printer ink does not bleed when it gets wet).

2. Cut journaling to desired size.

3. Run journaling piece through Xyron machine.

4. Spritz journaling with paint/water mix.

5. Allow time to dry--a few hours.

6. Adhere to layout.

Try it yourself and let me know what you think!! The pens will be available to purchase February 1st!

This is a pre-designed layout (Level 1) however, I tweaked it to make it my own by replacing the Red Barn colors with Cocoa. I love the combination of the Cocoa with the Indian Corn Blue!

Celebrate. Life is Good.

Such a cute little munchkin! Even cuter when being entertained by his grandpa's quacking! Nicholas' Grandpa is a master of the Donald duck voice! I adore this layout as it very simplistic and sometimes, simplistic is good. Notice the paisleys? Random paisleys are the My Stickease popped up on 3-d squares. Maybe not from the pictures, but up close and personal, they "pop"!

Digital Paper tearing

I am not the best at paper tearing, but I do love the effect that it gives. So, what is the solution? I discovered this layout design in Studio J that featured paper tearing...the look without my uneven curves! Very exciting! I created this layout for my mother-in-law with some highlights from a summer trip with the children. We took some 700 pictures, so it was rather difficult to narrow them down but I did select the ones that I liked the best and best represented the highlights of our trip and arranged them into this layout. I absolutely love the expression on Abby's face! I chose the Magic Moments paper collection because it pulled in the colors of each of the characters without clashing each other.

A new meaning to making things "pop"...

For this layout, I decided to "pop" the pattern into 3-d. If you look closely, to the left of the larger picture, you will see small circles popped up inside the circular designs: this adds depth to the layout and a few unexpected surprises. For a second dose of 3-d, I took the title (which was a My Stickease layered on Hollyhock paper and then trimmed out) and popped that up on foam squares as well.

Three little turkeys...

My 4 year old has been talking non-stop about sharing Thanksgiving with my niece! He has also been studying turkeys at school. So, when we were shopping a few weeks ago, he saw this little turkey shirt and insisted that he get it for Addison! He also insisted on making her a turkey to go with her shirt. I couldn't resist capturing this for Addison. So, the scrapbooker in me tried to compose a rhythm (of which I am not the best at!) to go with the layout. The journaling reads as follows (just don't laugh too hard at my rhyming attempt! lol!).

"Three little turkeys
Sitting in a row
Cuddling with each other
& giving kisses to and fro
Along came the mommy
Just as proud as she can be
And “flash” went the camera
Capturing for prosperity!

Gabriel has been fascinated with anything having to do with turkeys this Thanksgiving and he couldn't wait to sing his turkey song to Addison. So, his song was a little better than mine (lol), but that is all he has talked about the past few days! Gabriel tried effortlessly to teach Addison to “gobble-gobble” (without much luck!) He also wanted to make Addie a turkey during our craft time – so here it is! I love to see the love that Gabe is developing for his little sweet cousin! 11/10 "

Because I wanted to create a sense of continuum between this layout and the previous layout in my son's book that leads up to this layout, I decided to use the same paper collection, as well as the same lettering type for the title. I even formated the titles in a similar manner. I did focus on the Barn Red in this layout verses the Sunflower which toned down the layout to coordinate with the darker colors in the pictures.

The party planner...

I'm not sure if I should say I am ahead of the season, or behind. But recently, I have been inspired by fall, and have been chugging away on my fall layouts. I guess I am ahead a little bit of the season (as these layouts are from Thanksgiving), yet at the same time behind as they are from last year. Whatever the time-frame, I love the fall colors and pictures. I am sure that one of my friends would laugh at me as to my color choices...no, I didn't hire CTMH to create a paper collection to match my pictures, but oh, so much does it look like I did! But aren't the fall colors so inspiring to create with? I also adore this, now retired, paper pack as it has so many color choices that can be the focus color and regardless of the color choice, the other colors work to compliment beautifully!
