Final Layout from the Contention Album Contest

Tonight I wanted to share my 5th and final layout that I submitted in the Album Contest from Close To My Heart's National Convention this past summer.  The layout features pinwheels that were cut from the Artiste' Cricut Cartridge which add a flair to any piece of artwork that they are adorned to.  I also used the Avonlea Paper Pack and Canvas My Stickease (now retired), the Wooden Seaside Shapes (now retired), Slate Polka Dot Ribbon, and various Dimensional Elements.  I love the way this layout turned out because to me, it is a timeless layout...simplistic design, with classy embellishments so that the focal point is truly the photographs.  I felt that the Avonlea papers worked well with the photographs especially with the incorporation of the shades of greys as they really brought out the rocks.

30 Studio J's in 30 days - day 7

Tonight I wanted to share the third layout that I did of Mt.Rushmore.  For this layout, I used the journaling box to cover a bracketed piece that didn't work well with the balance of the layout.  To do this you simply cover the area with the journaling box and then change the color to the desired color (here it is Whisper which matched the background paper).  The next step is to move the journaling box "backwards" and walah the section is covered.  For those who would like to try this technique themselves, send me an e-mail and I will talk you through it more completely.  It definitely opens the doors to new possibilities!

30 Studio J's in 30 days - day 6

This the the second of three layouts that I created for my in-laws trip to Mt.Rushmore.   I continued with the Avonlea paper so that each place that they went together would be grouped together in a paper collection.  For this layout, I used the backwords tool to push the bracketed title piece behind the photographs.  Normally, I would have let it overlap the photos but in this scenario, because the details of the photographs were right on the edge, it would have cut the edges off.  To achieve this you can choose between move to back, or backword; and for the reverse, you can choose between move forward or move to front.  This is an incredible feature that Studio J provides.

30 Studio J's in 30 days - day 5

I have been working diligently all weekend on a Studio J album for my in-laws of their recent trip out west.  And in doing so, I have discovered some new things in Studio J.  First of all, the first layout that you see, was not designed to go side by side.  Instead, each page goes with a complimenting page (seen further down) of the same place/event.  These two pictures were so clear and "perfect" that I felt they needed to be printed as 12" x 12"s.  To achieve this, I used the No Rules layout design and loaded a picture from each place into the cell.  I then added my titles.  You will see for the Mt.Rushmore layout, I had to leave the title on vellum and for the Devils Tower I was able to use a lighter ink color that would show up over the greenery.

What I did next, was to look for a double layout that had one side that would balance off of a 12" x 12" picture.  I chose that layout and then just used the one side.  If I had been doings pictures within the same paper pack I might have been able to pull off putting a layout together with the unused pages but that wouldn't work with these particular pages. It is good food for thought for upcoming projects though.

So, then the right side of this layout will go with the Mr.Rushmore page.  I used the soft colors of the Avonlea as they worked beautifully with the stone colors of the mountain.  I chose not to incorporate too much extra as to not distract from the magnificent monuments.  The two smaller pictures were of a light show that they attended.  The pictures were blurry because of the distance and the lighting but I felt they were important to include as my in-laws really enjoyed the event.  By keeping the pictures small, the blurriness was not distracting to the balance of the layout.

For the balance of the Devils Tower layout, I struggled a little with which paper collection to use.  The sky was absolutely beautiful that day and we do not have that bright of a blue color.  But, that being said, if I had used pulled from the blues I think the details of the photographs would have been lost.  I chose to use the Magnifique paper collection, and then muted the pattered papers to Bamboo and Desert Sand.  This really made the details "pop" and even made the prairie dogs "pop"!  I am so delighted with this layout!

L-O-V-E

The Avonlea paper highlights many shades of greens and teals allowing for many opportunities to design and create with.  For this layout, I used the patterned paper that is Olive and Avonlea Green in tone.  The papers worked perfectly with the grass in my photos: the grass that is very healthy and abundant this year...which is definitely not something that we are used to in August so I was delighted to find a paper that highlighted it's beauty.  And of course, the cuteness of my kids on this day!  The L-O-V-E structure is found on the grounds of Luray Caverns for those who are interested in doing their own L-O-V-E photo shoot!

Make It From the Heart...inspired

Close To My Heart has a new How-To-Book called Make It From Your Heart.  The book is a soft bound book filled with double sided layouts, single sided layouts and cards:  all in one book!  The light weightless of the book makes it perfect to tuck in your tote and go.  Or to take with you to glance through while you are on the go.

A fellow consultant, Deborah Gillian, designed a one page spread with Avonlea that I loved.  So, I tweaked the layout to work with my pictures and we used it for a make and take at my crop this past weekend.  The Layout is #8.  Below is my version of the layout.

My supplies that I used:  Pewter Badge Buttons, Black and Grey Sparkle Assortment, Whisper Exclusive Ink Pad, Sponge,  Avonlea Canvas Shapes, Avonlea Level 2 Paper Pack and the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.

Re: the littlest (and cutest) Family Member

No, I promise, I did not have the "secret-color-code-to Close To My Heart's future paper packs" in advance although some of my friends might challenge that! lol. Abby's little dress matches the Avonlea Teal, Avonlea Green and Avonlea White almost exactly...as if the papers were made to match her little dress! It is oh so fashion forward let me tell you! And the pictures of her next to the rocks...well, then we can add in Slate and Whisper! L-O-V-E it!
Colors aside, for this layout, I used the Avonlea paper pack, Avonlea Canvas shapes, the beautiful exclusive ribbon from the Avonlea Card Workshop On the Go Kit, Chocolate All-Out Adventure Rub-ons (now retired) and 4" x 6" Flip Flaps.
For this layout, I added a little "tweak" to the flips flops that I have not tried before. I adhered the ribbon to the back of each flip flap with a permanent and see through adhesive, pulled the ribbon to the front, and then tied a bow. This illustrates to the viewer that there is more to see and encourages her/him to open the flap.

Sassfully Chirping Artiste' Cricut Workshop featuring Avonlea

Tonight I would like to share my fall starting line-up of classes that I will teaching this fall!  This will be my first Sassfully Chirping Cricut Class featuring the beautiful Avonlea collection.  This class is eligible for my Sassy On-line Club as well!  (For more information on my Sassy On-line Club, click here.)

This class will feature Close To My Heart's newest addition to their Cricut Collection: the Artiste' Cartridge: which is amazing!  I have been challenged by my local scrappers to show off how the cartridge can be used in my scrapbooking layouts and I, for one, think I am off to a good start.  I love the layout that I created.  Granted the subject matter does make a Mommy a little biased.  :)

My local class will be Thursday, August 30th (note new date) at the Hill's in Broadway.  Please register by August 22nd to make sure supplies arrive in time for class.  See shopping list below for needed supplies.  Should we outgrow the space, we will move to another local location.  For those who cannot attend, the class in available with full color step by step directions.  If shipping is required, please add $5 to the class cost.

Workshop kit includes:  X7155B Avonlea Paper Pack, Two sets of  X7155C Avonlea Complements Canvas Shapes, Z1333 Opaques Mocha Adhesive Gems*, Colored directions, and a sponge for inking.  The total workshop cost after shipping and tax is $30.00.

Participants may also choose to purchase the coordinating Slate, Whisper, or Chocolate Exclusive Ink pads for an exclusive participant cost of $4.00 each and the Slate, Whisper, or Chocolate Alcohol Ink Markers for $4.50 each.  The entire layout is ink distressed with Whisper ink so if you do not have that color in your collection, you might want to consider adding it to your order.

*One pack of the Mocha Opaques are included in the workshop kit.  I used a total of three packs to use a specific color, but you could mix and match the colors in the packs, or if you have left over Mocha Opaques from other projects, you can bring those as well.  If you prefer, I can add two sets to your order.  The choice is yours.

Participants should bring the following to class:  a Cricut 12" Mat (and tools if you have them), fine tip scissors, 3-d foam tape, 12" Trimmer, Adhesive of Choice, Mini Glue Dots.

I hope you can join me either in person, or on-line, with this endearing layout.  To register, simply e-mail me at: inallsassiness@gmail.com or use the PayPal link provided here.
