Adding embossing to layouts!

Close To My Heart has added Embossing Folders to their tool selections, and I for one could not be more delighted!  I love the way one can add just a little bit of embossing to a photo mat or a title and the "wow!" factor that it creates!  For this layout that I taught in a class a few weeks back, we went back to a favorite paper pack -- Footloose!  When the paper was originally available Close To My Heart did not have the fabulous Shimmer Trim, the Aqua Dots or the embossing folders so this was a fun paper to bring back out and accenting and embellishing with all that is new!  Plus, I for one am tired of the cold weather and snow, and this just made me HAPPY!  So if you look closely (and you can see the images larger if you click on the image-they will open in a new window) you can see that we embossed the title "fun & sun" which was a pre-designed Cricut title on our exclusive Artbooking cartridge as well and the Lagoon Photo mats.  They added just enough to make the mats pop!

For the flip flaps, I created little tabs using the Shimmer Trim.  To do this I simply cut a "flag" out of one piece of the trim, added it to the outside of the front of the flap then cut a second piece of trim and adhered it to the back of the flap so that it lined up with an attached to the front one. I then trimmed the flag of the back to match up with the flag on the front.  I repeated the same steps to create the second flag below the first and a little longer.

This layout is now available in a workshop kit form and includes a pack of Aqua Dots, a roll of Teal Shimmer Trim, one 4" x 6" Flip Flap and two 3" x 3" Flip Flaps; 2 page protectors, 1 sheet of Footloose Dimensional Elements, pre-cut embossed pieces,  needed patterned papers and cardstock to complete project, detailed instructions and a color copy of the project..  The kit cost is:  $15.00.  Add $8.00 for shipping if applicable however the shipping may be combined with other kits purchased on my In All Sassiness Designs Kits Page.

31 Days of Studio J - My Way. Day 6. Layers and Digital Depth.

One of the questions that I hear often, and once had myself before using Studio J, was about the "depth" of the layouts.  Would they look flat to speak?  I love the layered look of traditional layouts --the embellishments etc.  Happily, I can share that Studio J has achieved the concept of depth in their layouts!  When sharing my layouts with others, I often find people touching the layouts expecting to feel the layers.  A-maz-ing!  This layout is one that I created from our trip to Hawaii as well.  I love Monticello and the Jeffersonian era and there was a restaurant modeled around this time.  My favorite was the mural of Monticello.

One of the awesome things about Studio J is having the ability to change patterns colors from their original designs color to a completely different color and in turn a different look entirely.  Here I took the bright Lagoon wave patterned paper in the Footloose paper collection and changed the color to Desert Sand and also Bamboo.  By doing so, the waves, took on the appearance of a geometric design and took the tone of the the layout to a more elegant feel.

So it wasn't funny then...

but, now looking back I can chuckle a little.  What am I referring to?  My husband's and my LONG journey home from Hawaii last year!  Enough time has passes that I can go back and scrapbook the pictures and laugh.  So here they are...all 5 layouts worth!  Why 5 layouts for a trip back from Hawaii?  Because, it took 5 layouts to tell the very LONG story!  And believe me, this is the short version!

Day 29 - I am thankful for creativity!  I love creating artwork, handmade cards, and scrapbooking layouts and am thankful that I have had the opportunity to mix play and work and to build a business around my passions!

Total Turtle-Cuteness!

I couldn't help but share this adorable turtle frame that I created upon the inspiration of my colleagues Tina Sutton and Sandy Tremmel.  The frame was created with the Footloose paper collection, the Footloose Dimensional Element Compliments, Liquid Glass, Blue & Green Sparkle Assortment and the final touch that "makes" the frame--the Adhesive Back Springs.  Love, love, love it!

Instructions to create the frame:
1.  Purchase a square wooden frame at a local craft store.
2.  Flip the frame to the back side and trace frame (outside edge and inside edge in the picture window).  Trim the paper on the traced lines. 
3.  Cut the now square paper in half at about the 2/3 mark. 
4.  Glue the Creme Brulee side (yellow) to the top portion of the frame.
5.  Glue the sea image or pebble  side to the bottom of the frame.
6.  Adhere the Zip-tag from the paper pack to the seam between the "sky" and "shore".
7.  Tear a piece of "sand" designed paper and layer that on the frame as desired. 
8.  Tear a piece of the "water" designed paper and layer that over and below the "sand" paper.
9.  Cut the Dimensional Element wave and position one flat on the frame and one on 3-d foam so that they overlap.
10.  Add the seashell, and sand dollar flat.  Add the Smoothie Starfish on 3-d foam.
11.  Attach the turtle to the left side of the photo opening with an Adhesive Spring.
12. Add the Dimensional Element title with mini glue dots to the top of the frame. 
13.  Add two blue sparkles to the left and right sides of the title.  Add bitty sparkles to the turtle for her eyes.
14.  Use Liquid Glass to embellish entire frame including:
outlining the turtles shell and body, filling in over the letters, dots on the Starfish and waves, and outlines on the sand dollar.  If desired, add to other areas of the frame as well. 
15.  Set aside to dry overnight.

Life is Tweet - June Card Club

This month's carb club features the June Stamp of the Month, Life is Tweet, and the Footloose paper pack.  Club meets tonight at the Hill's from 6-9PM and the cost is $10.  We will make two each of four cards.  Colors being used are:  Sweet Leaf, Bamboo, Desert Sand, Lagoon, Chocolate and White Daisy.  There are still spaces available, so if your evening plans are rained out, we'd love to have you join us!  Just send me an e-mail at: inallsassiness@gmail.com.

Tag time

One of the make and takes at my last crop was this simple little chipboard tag.  The tag is one of CTMH's Cricut compatible tags that I inked with a combination of Smoothie and Sunset exclusive inks.  To achieve this I just dabbed the ink on randomly with a sponge.  Next I stamped the sentiment in Smoothie ink at the bottom of tag.  To create the flower, I stamped the image in Sunset and used a Smoothie dabber to apply Smoothie ink and to blend the colors.  I stamped the flower in 2nd generation ink onto White Daisy cardstock and cut the flower our.  For the stems I used a combination of Sweet leaf and Pear and also stamped in 2nd generation.  I cut our the leaves and glued their center to the tag with a glue dot.  To attach the flower, I popped it up with 3-d foam and attached to the tag so that it would overlap the leaves.  For a final touch, I added the Paradise Baker's Twine to the hole of the tag.  The stamp set used was D1511 Kick Back...a perfect stamp set for summer!

Aloha Gift Bags

These are the arrival gift bags that my croppers received at my Aloha Crop this past weekend.  I got the idea from the fabulous Kelly Rizzo!  She gave me an adorable one on our cruise so I wanted to use the same idea for my bags.  The bags were purchased at Target.  They originally had pink ribbon in them.  Like Kelly, I simply cut the pink ribbon out and replaced it with our Sweet leaf ribbon.  I then used a combination of Footloose and Dotty for You paper to decorate the bottom of the bags.  The tag, I actually designed for my Secret Sister on the cruise and it adorned the bags perfectly.  To create the tag, I used the Dimensional Elements tags, and partnered with the Art Philosophy cartridge so the size was right.  The tag was inked in Lagoon as well as the sentiment inked in the same color.  The flowers are from the Paradise Just Blooms Collection; the twine also from the Paradise Baker's Twine and the little starfish is from the Seaside Wooden Shapes.    I used mini-glue dots to hold the tags in place.  Wouldn't these be perfect for a pool party?  or for a Hostess gift?

A new twist for acrylic cards...

I created this layout to showcase pictures that I took on our trip to Hawaii of my husband and his new Ukulele.  He was sitting on a beach bench just playing.  I wanted to capture it with something different.  So, I decided to incorporate the acrylic cards into the photo and journaling mats.  This worked great as it created a new flair, were transparent so you could see the designs behind the mats, and created a "hiding" space for the back sides of the Baker's Twine which is somewhat thick.  To see enlarged views of the images, simply click on the image and it will open in a new window.

Title detail:  Desert Sand Ink on Irresistibles Eclectic Die Cut Alphabet.

To create the acrylic accent, first ink the White Daisy Bakers Twine with a sponge and Bamboo or Desert Sand ink until it is the desired shade.  Next, Ink the Starfish accent with either Bamboo or Desert Sand ink.  The starfish accent is attached to the paper flush with a mini-glue dot.  Attach the journaling to the front of the acrylic card.  Wrap the twine in a criss cross around the card and secure to the back with scotch tape.  This will be under the cardstock so it is not seen from the front.  Next, adhere 3-d foam to the back of the journaling piece, again so it is not seen from the front.  Position and adhere acrlyic card to the desired location so that it overlaps the starfish.  By using the acrylic card as an elevated mat, it adds dimension to the layout. 

For the photo mat, the same was done as in the picture mat.  The Bamboo mat is on top of the acrylic and the pebbled pattern is underneath.  The only difference is that the starfish is on top of the photo instead of underneath.
