Dr. Seuss's Birthday celebration

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss indeed!  Our children's school has a fantastic birthday celebration with the student's the week of Dr.Seuss's birthday--think similar to high school homecoming week where each day they dress a certain way.  The last day of the week, the children are supposed to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.  My children got all into the dress up part this year!    This is the layout that I created of the day in Studio J.  I used the Fanfare paper collection which highlighted the shades of blues that were close to the colors of Thing 1 and Thing 2's wigs.  I love that Studio J allows me to use the color white in my layouts and they look so professional!  My Studio J technique--see the brads that are in the margin of the semi-circle?  I placed each of those to enhance the semi circle!  I love the difference that the details made to the final layout!

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 20

Day 20 – I am thankful for my nephews Joshua and Andrew.  They are growing into quite the young men – each active in their chosen sports, band and scouts.  Although I don’t see them very often, I am thankful to be able to keep up with their lives through Facebook, and family stories.

New Year's Challenge...31 Studio J's in 31 Days!

Happy New Year's to all of my followers! I hope each of you has had a wonderful New Year's celebration! Or family had a much needed relaxing day at home, and I was able to catch up on some Studio J layouts. Which got me to thinking...I was still in need of a CTMH resolution for 2012. So, I decided that my first resolution would be to create, and post, 31 Studio J layouts in 31 days...in other words, one Studio J posted each day this month. Why this challenge, and why now? That part is easy. I spent the last 4 months giving the majority of my creative attention and time to my card making and Operation Christmas Cards and have fallen way behind on my scrapbooking. In fact, I have been itching to get back into scrapbooking. And why now? Well, that one is easy too! Layout 1:

So, let me tell you about this Studio J layout. I actually started it last spring and then abandoned it.  When I was looking through my Studio J notes, I came across it and decided to finish it.  It is simplistic, but I love the way the colors of the Fanfare collection work with the colors of Dr. Seuss!  The boys loved making cupcakes and wearing the silly hats!  What a fun day it was.  I love the paper tearing element of the layout.  I for one am not that precise/consistent with paper tearing but Studio J makes me look like a pro!  Love, love, love it!  The layout design is Elegant Context from Cherish which helps me complete a layout from and older challenge I am still chipping away at:  My Ultimate Scrapbooking Challenge.  74 1/2 layouts completed and 75 1/2 to go.

Busy little card makers

Our house was quite busy on Sunday with creating the boys Valentine's cards and treat bags. They both insisted on making their own cards and treat bags (although at about card 35 Mommy who wasn't feeling the best, was wondering why we didn't buy Mickey Mouse ones at the store!). I am very proud of my boys and their creative abilities. They are learning the fundamentals of card making and stamping which to some might seem silly, but secretly, they are also learning diligence, the ability to see things through, responsibility of caring and taking care of something (they each washed their stamps and were careful not to get too rough), and self improvement (each time they tried to improve upon the last one).

I had to laugh at Nicholas though, because he could have been a walking commercial for Close to My Heart...repeating "twist, twist, tap, tap, tap" every SINGLE time he inked his stamp!

Gabey wanted to make "Monster-teins" this year, so these are his little treat bags!

Nicholas' treat bags...Nicholas chose to have Dr. Seuss bookmarks, pencils and erasers this year or his Valentine's so we tried to find paper that coordinated with his "theme". I will post his card a little bit later.

Relay Crop Class Layout

Tomorrow evening, well actually this evening now (LOL), I am participating in a crop to benefit a local Relay for Life Team. This is the optional class that I am teaching. I love the simplicity, the colors, and the balance and for my pictures this new paper collection, Fanfare works terrifically! The shade of red is Cranberry and in many of the patterns, it takes on an orange shading. But for these pictures, it works perfectly! I also used the new Fanfare Embellishment assortment which are beautiful designer brads. Loving them!! If you don't have plans tomorrow, why not join us? A true pennant...

When I think about "pennants" I think of banners like this one, celebrating champions or successes, so when I saw these pictures, the title just popped for me! I had a lot of journaling that I wanted to say (I know, since when is that different)even though with "Champion" as a title, it was hard not to just quote the lyrics from "We are the Champions"...lol! So, I converted a space that would have normally been used for photograph into a jounraling space. With the title overhanging the words, everything seemed to mesh perfectly.

The journaling reads: "Mr. Gabe, my little World Cup Champion! You have been longing to play soccer since your brother starting playing on a children’s league. And although you were too little to play “officially”, you were constantly playing in the back yard. I sat one day and watched you from the window. You had such a sense of determination in your eyes. And at the same time, you were persistent in your efforts to kick that ball between the cones and into the net. I had to laugh at how only you could play soccer with flip flops… because every so often, you would try to kick the ball, and instead of hitting your target, your flip flop will fly off your foot and across the yard. But, you are you. And you would not let that stop you… you would slid it back on your little foot and you were off and on your way! I watched you make your goal, time and time again, and you were so filled with triumph: it was evident all over your face. What a delight to share your joy and excitement! I do so adore watching you and how you experience your world. My wish for you today is that you will always be as happy as you are now. And that you will keep that sense of determination and triumph.
