Sassy Studio J Saturday - Photos in Picture My Life format

As you know, I have a passion for Studio J scrapbooking! So true! During the month of August, Close To My Heart is featuring their Picture My Life Scrapbooking Program so I thought I would combine the two! Fun right?  One of the most fantastic features of Studio J is that you can print beautiful 12" x 12" photos as is...or as I have done, with text.  My family went to the shore/beach a few weeks ago and we were fascinated with this group of Seagulls.  To preface, I am a part of a photography group and one of our assignments was "flight" which was what initiated this fascination.  I set my camera to speed shooting and captured several of the seagulls flights.  Breathtaking.  When I reviewed my pictures there were so many that I wanted to highlight but when I started looking at the scrapbooking papers they all seemed to take away from the essence of what I wanted to portray.  I decided to print my favorite picture as a 12" x 12" and balance it out by choosing additional favorites to place in the pocket page.  I wanted a simple clean overall feel thus I typed the title and the journaling directly on the large photo.  This is my finished layout - forgive the photography, I was trying to avoid the glare on the page protectors.

To see the layout in greater detail, simply click on the layout and it will open in a new window.

This is the left page in true color - (from the j-peg)

Here is the how I printed my pictures using the No-Limits template.

Once I received the 12" x 12" page of photos, I cut them, rounded the corners, rearranged them a little and then slid them into the pocket page protector.

Happy Saturday!  Create something exciting!

Sassy Studio J Saturday -- teacher gifts.

It's not Saturday...I know!  I was having such a great time with my scrappers on Saturday that I completely forgot to publish my blog post!  I just realized that it was still in draft mode--so my many apologies.

So today, I wanted to share a project that I co-created with my children's school as a retirement present for a beloved teacher.  Before I share the pictures, I thought I would share some the background on how this project came to be.  The art teacher created hand prints with all of the students and faculty in the school.  They weren't sure what exactly what they were going to do with the hand prints but somehow wanted to turn them into a gift for the teacher.  Insert me.  I suggested to the secretary that we make a banner with the hand prints but realized that even though it would be a great gift to show our appreciation to many years of dedication, it would not necessarily be conducive for the teacher to save and look back on from years to come.  I started thinking...if we were to scan the hand prints before threading them to create the banner, then I could load the images into Studio J and create an album that she could look back on time and time again.

So, that is just what we did.  By scanning the hand prints (which my husband did for me), I was able to make the prints smaller when I added them to the photo wells.  This allowed me to add more hand prints to each layout. If I had left them in the original size I would only been able to get 2-4 on each page.  With choosing the layout designs, and a few I designed myself, I kept the majority of the photo sizes to 3" x 3" for continuity.  I chose to use the Grins and Giggles paper collection because the school colors are Red and Black.

When the book was completed, I was absolutely delighted with the end results.  My guess is that so was she!

Sassy Studio J Saturday

"Do you want to build a snowman?"

I know, it is the middle of the summer right?  So who is thinking about snowmen?  Just about every little girl that I know!  And quite a few little boys as well!  The Frozen-fever has swept the nation--my household included.

These little build-a-snowman kits were Abigail's Valentine treats to her friends back in February.  We wanted something unique, she wanted something Frozen, and I wanted to continue to make the memories of creating her Valentine's together verses taking the easy route and buying
at the store.  Our conflict came when she would not give up on the idea of having Frozen Valentine's.  So, we searched on-line and found this cute little free-printable from Disney when you could cut out Olaf's pieces and build a snowman.  I simply downloaded the activity, loaded it into Studio J, and it was printed on their high-qualify matte photo paper!  That was step one.

The second step was to create our little tag.  We found hundred of digital designs on Pinterest, but none were what we were looking for.  So, again, we turned to Studio J.  I re-visited a favorite paper collection - Wonderland -  and created the verse "Do you want to build a snowman" and set the measurements for the size that I wanted.  I then found a downloadable "Olaf", sized the piece to accommodate my needs, and printed him as well.  His background was white which was perfect.  Once the artwork arrived, I created a topper with Crystal Blue Cardstock (folded and scored), centered adhered the sentiment piece on cardstock, added a strip of White Daisy to the left side and a piece of Silver Shimmer Trim to the right.  I then matted Olaf on Twilight Cardstock and popped him up on 3-d foam tape.  I added a few little Shimmer Trim flags to the bottom Left of Olaf and added sparkles to the centers of the snowflakes on the sentiment piece.

To complete the packages, we added Large and small marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, an orange tic-tac (for the nose), candy eyes and pretzel sticks to one bag.  We placed the cut out snowman activity in a second bag and then adhered both bags inside the topper.

Her treats were a big hit with all of her little friends, and teachers, alike.  At Convention each year, consultants create Swaps--essentially a card, or other small form of artwork and trade with other consultants.  It provides a great deal of fun and allows the opportunity for to take home other consultants art, gain inspiration and experience different styles of creativity.  Since our convention was at Disney this year, I re-created our Olaf Valentines for my swaps.  I am sure the TSA agents at the airport thought I was crazy for the odd contents in my suitcase--bags of marshmallows, pretzels, choc. chips and tic tacs!

This turned out to be a great project!!  So now that I have explained my hows and whys, I ask again...
"Do you want to build a snowman?"

Sassy Studio J Saturday!

Happy Sassy Saturday!  I have had such a response to some of the recent artwork that I have created with our Studio J digital line, that I have decided to start a Studio J series on Saturdays here on my blog.  I can't promise that I will post EVERY Saturday, as my little ones often have very busy schedules, but I will do my best to share, and illustrate, new and creative ways to incorporate Studio J in your scrapbooks, photo processing, projects and daily lives.

For today, I want to share a project that I did for my up-lines team meeting at our National Convention at Disneyland last week.  Her Scattered Hearts Team is amazing and truly a unique group of team members that are scattered all around the country.  On the night before our convention kicks off, we get together for an evening of fun, art, catching up and awards.  This year, my up-line has had a great deal going on with some family medical issues, so I thought I would help out.  We had done a team meeting together in Florida back in May where I showcased Studio J, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to show the other team members a few ideas they could use in their business and help Tina out at the same time.

I created name tags for each of the team members that were on Tina's RSVP list in Studio J.  This was done by using the No Limits Layout Design and the Grins and Giggles paper pattern.  I created 3" x 4" photo wells and then added two of the patterned papers into the wells so we would have a variety.  I then added a 2" x 3" piece of vellum into the well and centered it.  Inside the vellum I typed each team members name in the font that I felt was the most "disney-fied".  I then added three Black buttons to create a Mickey head and added the Cranberry thread to complete the look.  Unfortunately, the program does not allow you to cut and paste created elements so each Mickey head had to created individually--but the result made it so worth it!

To make things go faster, I finished one complete 12" x 12" page, and purchased the j-peg.  I then re-loaded the j-peg into the no-limits for both the left and right side and all I had to do was add the names.  Simple!  Because this entire project was put together just days before our meeting, and I was worried about individuals having not RSVPed, I created two sheets of black name tags as well - this way, all they had to do was write their name on the tag with a Sharpie.

My finished name tag!

Blank page waiting for the names to be added.

This is what the the finished "two page" spread looked like with the names.

I loved how Disney-fied everyone looked with their cute name tags!  This is such a cute, and professional, looking idea that could be used for any meeting, crop, event.  Here is another example of one that I did for my spring crop.  These were more embellished but you can embellish, or not embellish as much as desired!

Happy Studio-J ing!
