31 Studio J's in 31 days - Day 24

To see an enlarged view of the layout, click on the layout.

My Studio J layout for today showcases some of the scenic views from our trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.  I used little in the means of embellishments or bells and whistles as to not take away from the photographs and instead of using traditional journaling, I chose to use select phrases as bullet points.  Simple and to the point.  The paper collection is again Mayberry and I chose to pull out the colors of Smoothie (pink), Desert Sand, Bamboo and Garden Green.  The layout design is:  Front & Center-In the Middle and Sidebar-Main Frame:  both from Reflections.

31 Studio J's in 31 days - Day 23

(Catching up a little from yesterday, my computer went down last night.)
So yesterday's post was actually inspired by some friends who are also working on a Cruise album.  They did a layout with the pictures of the towel art and I thought that was such a cool idea.  I decided to create one and to include in my Epic album as well.  When creating the layout, I really wanted to towels to be the focal point so I used a very neutral palette of Garden Green and Desert Sand.  The layout design is:  Backstage and is a Studio J Members exclusive layout.

31 Studio J's in 31 Days - Day 22

To see an enlarged view of the the layout, click on the layout.

Day 22 brought a challenge...as I have shared, I am working on my Epic Cruise album, and I am creating the book with the Mayberry collection. I love the Mayberry collection, but the colors just didn't work with my Cirque Dreams pictures. And the color combinations were all around challenging.  So, after trying the Sky blue (way too bright), the Smoothie (clashed against the red lights and curtains) and Gypsy (just didn't look the way I had hoped), I concluded to use the Desert Sand and Cranberry.  The Cranberry might look a little out of place, but I am counting on the Desert Sand carrying the papers through.  The layout design is Birds Eye View.

31 Studio J's in 31 days - Day 21

The layout that I am sharing for today's Studio J challenge, was totally created for my husband, although I must admit (secretly), that it was fun trying to remember (and then resolving to Google for the accuracy) the quirky things that Yoda has said.    While on our Epic Cruise, Jay discovered that the guy that created Yoda had a museum on St. Maartens Island, so all other tropical things aside, we had to find "That Yoda Guy"'s place.  I wanted to create a layout that Jay could look back and love.  I tried many color combinations, but decided to stick with the shades of Olive and Garden Green so I could really bring out the essence of Yoda "I did".  In each of the accent blocks I added one of Yoda's infamous quotes.  The layout design is Dramatic Fashion.

31 Studio J's in 31 days - Day 20

To see a enlarged view of this layout, simply click the layout.

Tonight I will share one more layout from our cruise.  This layout is from one of our dinners at a Brasilian Steakhouse.  I chose to use the Mayberry Paper Collection because this is the paper collection that Close To My Heart chose for our Cruise Albums Create and takes.  Because these pictures were a little more formal than many others, I decided to stay with the brown colors.  The Honey shades in the ribbons and embellishments worked well to compliment the woodwork in the ceilings.  The layout design is Stars Above.

Making it my own! Mayberry style!

So, have you ever had a patterned paper that you just adore, but the colors aren't quite right for your pictures? Or in my case, some of the colors, weren't right for my pictures? Such is my case for this layout that I wanted to create with the Mayberry paper collection. The pictures were pictures from our Close To My Heart Cruise and the shirts (of course they would be) matched the Smoothie color exactly, but the papers had a more colorful palette including a bring yellow/orange (Honey) and a Sky (blue) color. So, to solve my problem, I simply cut out squares of Smoothie cardstock inked the edges, and then placed them over the squares that weren't in the color palette of my layout. The result, a completely different look! This can be done many different patterned papers! Have fun creating!

Full spread

The layout design is Sidebar - Quartet from Reflections.

The right side is Title Topper - Basic from Reflections.

Materials used: Mayberry Level 1, Mayberry My Stickease and Liquid Glass. Colors featured: Smoothie, Cocoa, Colonial White & Olive.

My Ultimate Scrapbooking Challenge: Both layouts have been previously used.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to alter the patterned paper:

Choose a pattern paper.

Cut alternative squares to 1 1/4" x 1 1/4". Ink if desired. Position over squares that are needing to be altered. Adhere down.

For the squares that are off the paper, cut the square in half adhere into position. Flip the paper to the backside and cut off the excess.

Continue until all of the needing altered squares are covered.

A new way to look at tags...

Cute tags that adorn a card that is!

Card Design is Tag Trio from Originals.

To create this taggingly cute card, I incorporated several different steps: both layers of the tags were torn so that the white core was exposed, then inked with Cocoa ink. The title was stamped with the oh-so popular Polka Dot alphabet (do you have this stamp set yet? if not, it should quickly be added to your "must have" list...it is so versatile!) and the buttons were inked with Brown Staz-On to give a Cocoa look to them.

My Ultimate Scrapbooking Challenge: 142 card designs completed. 66 to go.

Remembering Trunk Bay...

A few months ago, my husband and I went on our first cruise that I earned through Close To My Heart. I have been steadily, and slowly, scrapbooking our trip. Both of these layouts were designed exclusively designed by the CTMH art team for the cruise earners. They were lots of fun to create and I love, LOVE, LOVE the cute stamp set that was created for us! This first layout will be my make and take for my upcoming crop this weekend! Can't make it to the crop? And just have to have the layout? Send me an e-mail and I will make up a kit for you...the cost would be $20 plus shipping if applicable. Want both layouts? The total would then be $32 plus shipping if applicable. (note: there will be extra materials that you can use in other projects).

The above Layout Design is Powerful Trio from Imagine.

The below Layout Design is Abracadabra from Magic.

Supplies used: Mayberry Level 2, Badge Buttons, Kraft Borders and Pewter Mini Medleys.

Featured colors: Smoothie, Cocoa, Sky, Desert Sand, Bamboo, Honey, Olive.

My Ultimate Scrapbooking Challenge: I have used the first layout previously and the second, is from Magic: to be added at a later date to my challenge.

Aargh...delight.

Aargh! Yes, which one is the pirate? My husband or the real pirate? We bought this picture on our cruise for my boys who love pirates! (of course, because that is what 4 and 6 year olds love!). It presented a challenge, as it an unusual size (8x6) but I think it works well with this layout. The paper is the Mayberry and this is actually from a Level One kit. I am happy with how it turned out. I added hand-stitching around the photograph to add a little extra pizazz! I also added liquid glass to the flowers and inked the parenthesis with Honey ink to make it a little darker. I think all of the elements pull the layout together nicer and it was made Faster. Simpler. Easier.

The Layout Design is Reflections: Sidebar-Photo Focus.

The Layout Design is Reflections: Half & Half - Perfect Square.
