A Wish Come True Disney interactive layout

Sounds fun right?  And yes, you would be correct...this layout was a lot of fun to plan, design and create.  And then of course, once the layout was completed I couldn't help playing with it and looking at it again, and again!  My kids have loved showing it off as well - you would think it was a complicated nightmare, and yet, it was truly quite simple to create.  Here on this post, I will be sharing the step-by-step details of how to re-create the layout.  You can certainly tweak as desired to showcase your Disney, or other, fun pictures as well.  Before I begin, I do want to give credit where credit is due -- the flip-flapping page interactive protector concept was innovated by Kathy Aardema-Zunk.  She so graciously taught her sister consultants the concept at a Business Conference I attended in February and now I just want to create it time and time again!  So, thank you Kathy for such a energetic concept.

You will be humming everything Disney by the end of this fun filled interactive class/project! You will learn a game changing technique designed by Kathy Aardema-Zunk with artwork created by myself that allows you to add as many pictures until your heart desires (ok well maybe not as many as your heart desires but most certainly a lot!). IF you opt to purchase the kit, or take the class, the  gazillion stars are all precut as well as the many other pieces and you will have a full pack of Stargazer dots and compliments to accent and embellish your layout with. Color photos and detailed instructions are included as well. If you live local, simply select the link that is for pickup so you don't have to pay shipping. You may also add on a mini companion kit that includes 3 sheets of coordinating patterned paper and 5 sheets of coordinating cardstock for $5.00. This will give you a few more options and papers to partner your left over embellishments with. For those interested in taking the physical class, I will be offering it on Saturday, May 19th from 2-5PM at the Hill's in Broadway. Basic tools needed.

To begin, cut both pieces of White Daisy CS to 11 ½” x 11 ½”.  Center, and adhere, inside of the Black cs base.  These will be your left and right bases.

Left page:

To create left page:

1. Prepare base as instructed above.
2. Center, and adhere, 5” x 7” vertical photograph into 5 1/8” x 7 1/8” Black cs mat.
3. Center, and adhere, the Black 5 1/8” x 7 1/8” mat inside the 5 ½” x 7 ½” Poppy striped mat.
4. Center, and adhere, the Poppy striped mat inside the 5 ¾” x 7 ¾” Pacifica mat (dark side).
5. Adhere the Pacifica mat to the base.  This is 2” from the left base edge and 1 ½” from the lower base edge.
6. Adhere the 3 ½” polka dot zip strip to the lower left side of the Pacifica mat.  This is 2 ½” from the lower base edge.
7. Cut 2 ½” from the Sapphire “plus sign” sticker.  Adhere on the upper left edge of the Pacifica mat.  This is 2 5/8” from the left base edge.
8. Create star cluster on the left side of the photo.  Adhere the small Canary sticker with 3-d foam tape inside the White Daisy outlined Canary larger star sticker.  Center, and adhere, this piece inside the x-large Pewter patterned star.  Accent two Ruby (1 small and 1 medium) dots to the outside of the star.

9.  Star positioning:  Accent the right side of the photo with a cascading cluster of stars.  Feel free to cluster as desired.  If following sample exactly they are created as follows (see above numbered picture):

1.Canary small.  2.  Sapphire small chipboard.  3.  Pewter patterned small, Pewter (light) medium, Pewter patterned large.  4.  Ruby (dark) medium, Ruby (light) large, Ruby (dark) x-large.  5.  Sapphire patterned medium, Sapphire (dark) large, Sapphire patterned x-large.  6.  Pewter patterned small.  7.  Pacifica (light) small.  8.  Ruby (dark) small, Ruby (light) medium, Ruby (dark) large.  9.  Canary (dark) medium, Canary (light) large, Canary (dark) x-large.  10.  Pewter patterned small.  11.  Ruby (dark) small.  12.  Pacifica (light) small, Pacifica (dark) medium, Pacifica (light) large.

10. Adhere a medium and small blue dot to the left of star
11. Create title cluster.  Adhere the Canary “I” flat.  Adhere the striped heart with 3-d foam tape and adhere a small blue dot to the right side of the heart.  Adhere the Black “happy” below, and to the right, of the heart.  Adhere the grey arrow sticker below the word “happy”. Accent the arrow itself with a large red dot and then adhere a small red dot below and to the right.

Right Page:

To create right page:
1. Prepare base as instructed above.
2. Trim 5” x 7” horizontal photograph to 4 7/8” x 6 7/8”.  Center, and adhere, to a 5” x 7” Black mat.
3. Center, and adhere, Black mat into 5 ½” x 7 ½” poppy striped mat.
4. Center, and adhere, the poppy mat inside the 5 ¾” x 7 ¾” Pacifica mat.
5. Position, and adhere, the Pacifica mat to the base.  This is 1/8” below the upper base edge and 2 3/8” from the left base edge.
6. Repeat steps 2-4 with the second 5” x 7” photo. Position, and adhere, the Pacifica mat to the base.  This one, however, is 1/8” above the lower base edge and is still 2 3/8” from the left base edge.
7. To create the banner, select a background color (you have a Canary, Pacifica and Ruby to choose from) and adhere to the back of the Black banner.  Attach to the layout with 3-d foam tape.  This crosses over the bottom right corner of the upper picture and the upper right corner of the lower picture.
8. In the upper left corner of the base, create a cluster of pennants.  First adhere the Pewter patterned pennant – this is flush with the upper edge and 1 1/8” from the left base edge.  Adhere the Sapphire pennant to the left of the above pennant so that it overlaps it.  This is again flush with the upper edge.  Finally, adhere the polka dot pennant so that it overlaps both pennants.  Accent with three dots: a large yellow, a medium blue and a small red.

9. Create a cascading cluster of starts starting at the bottom left edge of the base and ending at the upper right edge of the base.  Feel free to cluster as desired.  If following sample exactly they are created as follows (see picture)

1.Ruby (dark) small, Ruby (light) medium, Ruby (dark) large.  2.  Pewter patterned small, Pewter (light) medium.  3.  Canary small.  4.  Pacifica (dark) small, Pacifica (light) medium, Pacifica (dark) large.  5.  Sapphire patterned small.  6.  Ruby (dark) small, Ruby (light) medium.  7.  Black medium, Black large.

10. Add a medium red dot to the right of star #1 and a blue dot to the left of the top of the same star.  Adhere a large blue dot to the lower left edge of star #4.  Adhere a large red dot to the lower left of star #6.  Adhere a medium and small yellow dot to the lower right edge of star #7.

To create interactive page:

1. There are two sectioned page protectors in your kit.  Set one protector aside.  For the second, cut off the spine section that would normally be used to secure page into book.  Make sure to cut to the outside of the stitching so that the pocket itself stays in tack.  Next, cut the same protector in half along the seam vertically – this is between the pockets.  For ease and accuracy, use a 12” paper trimmer to accomplish this task.  See diagram for location of cuts.  Set second protector aside.

2. For the next step, you will need 6 strips of patterned paper/cardstock.  It is important that these are all 3 15/16" x 12" to be able to slide with ease into the pockets of the protectors.  Fold each of these pieces in half and use a bone folder to smooth out the folds.
3.  Next, lay the six pieces out in desired order on a VersaMat.  Doing so enables you to see, and work with the pieces more easily.  Note all of the folds are to the center of the pieces.

4.  Create the Center - center page.
Section 1:  base is the Poppy stripe.  Center, and adhere, a 3 3/4" x 5 3/4" photo inside mat.
Section 2:  base is Pewter cardstock.  Base is completely covered by 4" x 6" photo.
Section 3:  base is Black cardstock.  In the lower part of the black adhere Pacifica outline of the letter "A" with 3-d foam tape. Adhere the inside of the "A" flat inside the "A".  Attach the Canary yellow heart sticker to the left corner of the "A".  Adhere the letters "W", "I", "S", "H" to the right of the letter "A" - note these are flat.  Add a medium red dot above the letter "H".  Adhere the red arrow, with the point facing the right, below the "I-S-H".  In the center of the arrow, adhere the Poppy heart circle sticker with 3-d foam tape.  Adhere a small Canary to the right of the heart sticker.
Section 4:  base is Canary.  Adhere the letters "C", "O", "M" and "E" in the upper left corner of the panel.  To the right of the "e" adhere the large Poppy heart sticker with 3-d foam tape at an angle.  Adhere a medium blue dot to the right of the heart.  Adhere the negative space of the word "TRUE" in the right lower corner of the panel.  To the left of the word true, adhere the 2" polka dot strip.
Section 5:  base is the astronaut paper.  Base is completely covered by 4" x 6" photo.
Section 6:  base is Poppy stripe.  Center, and adhere, a 3 3/4" x 5 3/4" photo inside the mat.

5.  Create the center - left page.

Section 1:  base is astronaut.  Base is completely covered by a 4" x 6" photo.
Section 2:  base is astronaut.  Cover base with Poppy 3 15/15" x 6" mat.  Adhere Ruby 1" x 6" cs strip 1/2" from the bottom of the panel.  Adhere the Black 1/2" x 6" cs strip inside the Ruby strip.  This is about 1/8" up from the bottom edge of the Ruby strip.  Adhere "adventure" sticker at an angle on the right side of the dual cs strips.  Adhere the large pen-line circle over the ticket (flat).  With 3-d foam tape, adhere the "so much fun" sticker inside the pen-line circle.  Create a cluster of 1 small yellow, 1 large blue and 1 large red dots around the embellishment.
Section 3: base is Black cs.  Cut 1/2" off of blue diagonal striped zip strip and adhere to the right edge of the base 1" from the bottom of the base edge.  Adhere the remaining part of the zip strip to the left side of the base so that it aligns with the 1/2" piece.  Center, and adhere, the "All Smiles" PML card (if purchased from me as a kit, this was already cut down from 3" x 4") inside the 3" x 4" Sapphire patterned 3" x 4" piece.  Center, and adhere, the Sapphire piece inside the 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" light great patterned piece.  Position, and adhere, the entire 3-layered piece to the black mat.  This is 1 3/8" from the left base edge and centered vertically.  Create a cluster of stars and dots including: 1 small blue dot, 1 medium red dot, 1 large yellow dot, 1 small Ruby (dark) star (to the left of the PML card and flat), a small Pewter patterned paper star (popped up with 3-d foam tape in the upper left corer of the card mats) and 1 small Poppy striped star (popped up with 3-d foam tape to the right of the other two stars).
Section 4: base is black.  For details, read section 6.
Section 5:  base is Poppy striped.  Base is completely covered with a 4" x 6" photo.
Section 6:  base is Poppy striped.  For this piece, center, and adhere, a 4" x 6" vertical photo inside the 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" Pewter patterned paper.  Position the matted photo over section 4 and 6 and cut horizontally where it makes sense and fits...meaning you don't want to cut thru Mickey's eyes etc.  Adhere the two sections of the matted photo to section 4 and 6 so that the photos line up when both flaps are open.

6. Create the center -right page.

Section 1:  base is Pewter cs.  Center, and adhere, a 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" photo inside a 2 5/8" x 3 5/8" Canary mat.  Center, and adhere, a 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" photo inside a 2 5/8" x 3 5/8" Black mat.  Center, and adhere, both of the photos with mats inside the Pewter base.  Adhere 2 large red dots to the lower right edge of the Canary matted picture and 2 large blue dots to the upper right edge of the Black mat.
Section 2:  base is Pewter cs.  The base is covered completely with a 4" x 6" photo.
Section 3:  base is Canary.  Adhere the Poppy striped 3 15/16" x 6" mat over the base.  Center, and adhere, a Black 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" cs piece inside the base.  Center, and adhere, a 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" photo inside the 3" x 4" Pewter patterned paper.  Adhere this entire piece with 3-d foam tape inside the Black mat.  This is 1/4" from the right Black right edge and is centered vertically within the black mat.  Cut 2" from the Sapphire "plus" sticker and adhere to the left edge of the photo.  This is on the lower portion of the mat.  Adhere a cluster of 3 red dots (2 small and 1 medium) in the lower left corner of the mat.  Adhere a cluster of 3 stars in the upper left corner of the mat: a Sapphire chipboard small star (adhered flat), a small polka dot star to the left of the 1st star and overlapping the photo (also flat) and a Pewter patterned star to the left of the polka star that is adhered with 3-d foam tape.
Section 4:  base is Canary.  Adhere the Black 3 15/16" x 6" mat over the Canary piece.  Center, and adhere, a Canary 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" mat inside the Black piece.  Cut the "Good Times" pml card to 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" (if you purchased this from me, I have pre-cut it for you) and center, and adhere, inside the 3" x 4" Sapphire patterned paper.  Adhere, the Sapphire mat inside the Canary mat - this is positioned with 1/4" Canary border around it: above, below, and to the right of the mat.  Adhere 3 yellow dots to the left lower corner of the PML card vertically: 1 medium, 1 large, 1 medium.  Adhere the polka dot pennant to the left of the pml card: this is flush with the section upper edge and 1/2" from the left edge of the section.  Adhere the Ruby pennant overlay over the polka dot pennant.
Section 5:  base is the astronaut paper.  The entire base is covered by a 4" x 6" photo.
Section 6:  base is the astronaut paper.  Adhere a Pewter 3 15/16" x 6" mat over the base.  Center, and adhere, a 3 3/8" x 5 1/4" photo inside a Pacifica (dark) 3 5/8" x 5 1/2" mat.  Center, and adhere, the Pacifica mat inside the Pewter piece.

7.  To create the center - back page.

Section 1:  base is Pewter (light side).  Adhere the 3 15/16" x 6" dark Pewter mat to the base. (see section 3)
Section 3:  base is Canary.  Center, and adhere, a 4" x 6" picture to the 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" Black mat.  Center, and adhere, the combined Black mat inside the 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" Ruby mat.  Cut the photo and attached mats in half vertically - note: make this cut where it makes sense to your photo.  Adhere both the top and bottom mats to the section 1 and 2 bases -  the bottom edge of the top potion should be flush with the bottom edge of the Pewter base; the top portion of the bottom portion should be flush with the top edge of the Canary base.  This should create the illusion that they match when the panels are closed.  Accent the left side of photograph and mats with a star and dot cluster (this should be on the Canary base).  For the stars (see photo)  1.  Small Pacifica sticker star, medium (dark) star.  2.  Ruby (light) small.  There is a large yellow dot to the left of star 1.  There is a small blue dot to the right of star 2.
Section 5:  base is Poppy striped.  Create the ticket embellishment:  the Pacifica is adhered flat to the black ticket; the Ruby part is adhered flat to Pacifica ticket; then the entire ticket is adhered with 3-d foam tape at an angle  in the upper left corner of the base.  Adhere the black arrow outline to the Pacifica arrow.  Adhere the completed arrow at an angle in the lower right corner of the base.  Create, and adhere the stars as follows: 3.  Pewter patterned small; Pewter (light) medium; Pewter patterned large - adhered with 3-d foam tape.  4.  Black small.  5.  Canary (dark) small; Canary (light) medium.  Adhere a large yellow dot to the left of star 3.  Adhere a small yellow dot to the upper left edge of star 5.
Section 2:  base is Poppy striped.  Center, and adhere 4" x 4" photo inside 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" Black mat.  Center, and adhere, Black mat inside 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" Ruby mat.  Cut photo and mat element is a place that makes sense for your photo.  Adhere the top portion to the Poppy base and the bottom piece to the top of the Black base.  In the right upper corner of photo, adhere #6 star with 3-d foam tape: Ruby (dark) small, Ruby (light) medium; Ruby (dark) large.    Adhere a large blue and medium yellow dot to the right lower edge of the star.
Section 4:  base is Black.  Adhere the bottom portion of the 4" x 4" photo to the upper part of the base.  Center, and adhere, a 4" x 6" photo inside the Ruby 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" mat.  Center, and adhere, the Ruby mat inside the Black 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" mat.  Cut photo and mats horizontally where it makes sense.  Adhere the top portion of the photo and mat to the top of the Black base.
Section 6:  base is the Astronaut print.  Adhere a Dark pewter 3 15/16" x 6" mat to the base.

8.  Assemble the center page.  Now that all of the bases and sides have been completed, follow these steps to create the center page.

Step 1:  Slide the three folded panels into the divided page protector.  Slide the left side of each panel completely inside the left half of the protector.
Step 2:  Slide the right side of each of the three panels into the 1/2 page protector about an inch.  Line up all three so they are even.
Step 3:  Hold the started pieces and the 1/2 protector upright and gently slide the protector evenly over all three pieces until the right halves are inside the protectors.

Repeat steps 1-2 with the right flaps and sides.
